For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Biggest worry in the 1950's was the rise of the Cold War. And the spread of communism. Although Russia had fought cooperatively with the allies in WWII, seems they were turning against the world. Recall the Iron Curtain. How many countries were held captive under that tyrannical governance? What they then called germ warfare did not have the capabilities of more modern, sophisticated technology. And there's always the threat of spreading illness amongst a nation's own peoples. Takes a bit of crazyness, if intentionally launched. But that's different from lax controls, or accidents -- followed by ill advised cover-ups of what occurred. |
