Biggest worry in the 1950's was the rise of the Cold War. And the spread of communism. Although Russia had fought cooperatively with the allies in WWII, seems they were turning against the world. Recall the Iron Curtain. How many countries were held captive under that tyrannical governance?
What they then called germ warfare did not have the capabilities of more modern, sophisticated technology. And there's always the threat of spreading illness amongst a nation's own peoples. Takes a bit of crazyness, if intentionally launched. But that's different from lax controls, or accidents -- followed by ill advised cover-ups of what occurred. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I was watching a show last night about the Korean War and I got to wondering what the world reaction would have been if they released the virus in the 50's and devastated the world economy killing a couple of million people? Remember when our pow's came home with their horror stories about their treatment, I wonder if it could've started a war? |
