Tom,
As a 'Nam vet, I felt McNamara and Westmoreland were mostly to blame for fighting that war with one hand tied behind our back. Trump has the correct approach today, win it and get out if cause was worthy (stopping the spread of communism) by protecting our homeland. Unfortunately, our politicians/military elites, then and now, believe we need to nation build while fighting a limited type war. Too many American kids get sent to far away lands for questionable motivations or poor decision making and never come home. Just an opinion! Dave |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Vietnam began with so-called military advisers being sent, and yes many American lives were lost. Could be called some of the Asian parts of the Cold War. Leaders of both political parties were involved in that tangled web of Vietnam. Yet many folks remember Lyndon Johnson making some moves gathering lots of public scorn over his lack of successes or his setbacks in that war. And its not entirely clear how Kissinger either helped or not in ending that war. A political football/ debate. |
