In what ways do you think that Russian institutions and / or Russian people should get boycotted?
Rather than a broad or abstract discussion, let me focus on a couple cases I've seen. Case One: There is a system of "MOOC" - massive online open courses - which can be taken by students either for free or by payment for those who want to be certified. One collection of MOOC courses is bundled together and called "Coursera" Some of the "coursera" courses are taught by colleges located in Russia. But the officials at Coursera have decided to stop offering these immediately, as you can see in the first image below. While I am not in favor of stopping all studies of Russian culture and history, I suppose there is some argument to be made in favor of stopping the support for the Russian colleges by banning courses from those schools. But I am not completely convinced that it is a strong argument. I am not convinced that taking away money from Russian colleges is much of a punishment of the Russian *government* which is really the entity we want to affect, yes? Such a move hurts the Russian colleges ONLY it seems to me... ******************* Case two: There are evidently professional scientific journals which are refusing to publish anything submitted by researchers at institutions in Russia. See second image below. Once again, I would argue that such measures hurt only the Russian scientists and not the Russian government. What is your response? Thanks.
