Dear Mark
Thanks for your response. You might have read comments here from Tom Hemmick - and yes, he is related - he's my dad. He knows far more about the law and economics and business than I do, but hopefully I can add something worthwhile now and again. I agree 100% with your comments. Some reactions make little sense and seem to be more about getting oneself attention rather than really making an actual contribution to the cause and putting pressure on the Russian government. By the way, here is an article from "Reason" magazine on the topic, which elaborates on this and maybe adds further important details and context. Take care, Yours, Doug |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I agree. There are helpful moves and there are knee-jerk reactions. Americans--some Americans, are simply engaging in knee-jerk reactions. And not all politicians are in a position to make proper decisions, even if they are proper decisions. Our Ohio governor announced that it is now illegal to buy or sell Russian-made goods in Ohio. Really? Shouldn't this be a federal issue? How does he plan to control and enforce such an executive order? Post border guards at the Indiana and Pennsylvania/New York/Michigan/Kentucky borders? Yes, we are all--most of us--very opposed to Russia's invasion of The Ukraine. But let's think and act in sensible ways regarding this act of war. |
