My family wasn't a product of "generations of wealth". We were poor, and just as "disadvantaged" as some of the black neighborhoods you describe. I started with none of the advantages you seem to think I did. There are other factors in life that seem to have disadvantaged whites . . . "Affirmative Action" was one.
The differences you see to ascribe to race I think more is a reflection of class. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Thanks Mark, From what I have learned/experienced I do not see white privilege as you define it. There is no question that hard work, sacrifice, education, family structure contribute to one's success. White people start with certain advantages as the playing field, even today, is not level. I have cited several ways white's start at the 50 yard line and people of color start in the end zone facing the full length of the field. Education, housing, ability to secure a loan etc. White people have through generations acquired wealth. If only blacks were given the 40 acres and a mule there might be greater economic equality. |
