Thanks Mark,
From what I have learned/experienced I do not see white privilege as you define it. There is no question that hard work, sacrifice, education, family structure contribute to one's success. White people start with certain advantages as the playing field, even today, is not level. I have cited several ways white's start at the 50 yard line and people of color start in the end zone facing the full length of the field. Education, housing, ability to secure a loan etc. White people have through generations acquired wealth. If only blacks were given the 40 acres and a mule there might be greater economic equality. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I understand that white privilege is the basis of a theory which suggests any success I have as a white is due in large measure to my skin color. There may be a tiny bit of truth in there in some cases, but I choose to believe that any success I have (or anyone else) is due primarily to their work ethic. What are some of those things you see people of color don't enjoy that white people do ? |
