Sure. Westover in MA; Mather and March in CA. You and I just drew the wrong card. I could have chosen Minot ND or Abilene TX other than Northern ME.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Can you think of one SAC base other than Hq at Offit that wasn't located in God Forsaken North America? My base, Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX was the ONLY base in the Z.I. considered an "isolated tour of duty"! I was once told the reason for the bases being in the middle of nowhere was that any "suspicious person" would stand out like a sore thumb in an isolated community. At the height of the cold war I guess it made some sense but in hindsight it's laughable now. |
