Any mishaps with these things [gigantic wind turbines] creates the possibility of dispersing extremely hazardous flotsam and jetsam in the Gulf Stream and commercial/military shipping lanes.
Bob Very easy to foresee flotsam & jetsam when we imagine the power of winds & waves during hurricanes passing off the coast. Translate flotsam & jetsam by calling it "debris" flying off of those structures. Would it surprise folks that the highest wind speeds do NOT produce greater amounts of power. They have cut-out devices, intended to protect the huge blades from damages, protect them from failing, flying apart or breaking off from spinning too fast. And even changing angles, for feathering. Yet the stats show 3,800 blade failures annually. . . . "structural failure accidents of wind turbine blades are not uncommon. . . . with an estimated 700,000 blades in operation globally, there are, on average, 3,800 incidents of blade failure each year." For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: That's like planting X-number of NYC-type skyscrapers not that far from shipping lanes.
