Although Biden's green policies have been emphasizing cars, trucks & buses, trying get them 100% electric -- as well as coal and natural gas power plants, trying to get them 100% solar and wind, his policies and the media have been AVOIDING some other massive fossil fuels questions and issues. For example, the burning of coal and coke fired blast furnaces, needed for producing steel, are releasing very large CO2 emissions. Likewise the cement producing industry is also burning such fossil fuels and producing large CO2 emissions. The typical steel piling to support an offshore wind turbine is huge, with a 30 ft. diameter and up to 300 ft. length. Each piling weighs about 2,500 tons. It is first driven into the seafloor, then hollowed out and backfilled with concrete. About 15,000 tons of concrete are poured into a finished piling. Click Here Estimates show about 5,000 tons of CO2 are released by manufacturing the steel and another 9,000 tons of CO2 from the cement being released for one wind turbine piling A section of steel piling being built for an offshore wind turbine.
A report in Time magazine pointed out how the world is dependent on steel and cement as well as on plastics and ammonia produced from fossil fuels Report titled: The Modern World Can't Exist Without These Four Ingredients. They All Require Fossil Fuels Click Here Nbrs 1 & 2 Both cement and steel are needed for roads, bridges, buildings, airport runways, and many other essential projects from skyscrapers to tools to scalpels. Nbr 3 Plastics are made from oil and are needed to build a wide variety of devices, TV's, phones, appliances, transportation--cars, trucks, boats and a number of household and industry uses. And the plastics are irreplaceable in medical uses: flexible tubes for feeding patients, delivering oxygen, and monitoring blood pressure, catheters, intravenous containers, blood bags, sterile packaging, trays and bedpans. On & on. Even the wind turbine blades are based on carbon fiber, a modern petrochemical derivative. Nbr 4 The ammonia component is noted as an essential component for fertilizer products used to feed the world’s population. Here’s a NYTimes report (reprinted by a free site) titled: Fossil Fuels Aren’t Going Anywhere Quotes: “Even if fewer fossil fuels are used for energy production the booming petrochemical business could keep demand high. . . . Hundreds of new oil and gas projects have been approved in the past year." Petroleum products will be essentially needed in the decades ahead. Sorry Joe Biden, but you’re greenie plans have so many huge gaps. | ||||||
