Records of Ft McHenry indicated that the flag that flew there was 42 feet long and 30 feet high, with each stripe being about two feet wide, and the stars being about two feet in diameter. Huge
Here's a video of a Ft McHenry flag raising ceremony, performed by the National Guard. During this ceremony, folks will see the immense size of that flag, as the Guardsmen unfurl it, then raise it up the mast, to proudly fly. Enjoy !! Tom |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Francis Scott Key's National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner is among my personal favorite songs to sing AND there's only one National Anthem, PERIOD !!!!!!!!! Especially for this guy, born in Baltimore, and a big fan of Ft McHenry. Also, a big fan of the Battle of Baltimore, including the phrase ". . .our flag was still there. . . " And also a fan of Wells & McComas, the teen age sharp shooters who shot the British General who was leading his soldiers, advancing from North Point towards the city. Such memories may also be in your wheel house. Which is why I skip all those pregame antics. |
