Among these locations are military bases in New Jersey and Indiana.    Then there's rehabbing of former prisons in Calif.  And possible locations in Colorado.

Those two Kern County facilities are: California City Correctional Center, (deactivated in 2024), and the McFarland Female Community Reentry Facility, (which closed in 2020.)

Those six Colorado facilities are all privately owned correction facilities and none are currently in operation.

Border czar Tom Homan said there are about 60,000 beds currently available for detained immigrants, and the goal is to expand to 100,000.   

Homan added:  "Before we deport them, they need a bed. Because it takes several days, several weeks, several months actually to move them. The faster we get the beds, the more people we can take off the street."
