A facility in Indiana, to be located in about 75 miles from the Indianapolis speedway is being called “Speedway Slammer.” The plans show 1,000 beds, and it sited next to Grissom Joint Air Reserve Base.. Now comes the announcement of a contract to build the largest new detention facility in the US at Fort Bliss Army base in El Paso. The new 5,000 bed facility will be built under a $1.26 billion contract By comparison, the Florida Allegator Alcatraz has capacity of 3,000 beds. Both facilities are of similar design, featuring large tent city style of accommodations and with air conditioning and heating. The Fort Bliss facility is expected to begin operations later this year.
