The idea of military EVs scares me to death. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Mark (& ALL) Here’s some more EV political entanglements. Congress has begun to fight back against states mandating deadlines when new vehicles must only be EV’s. Report titled: House passes bill that would ban state limits on selling gas-powered vehicles Click Here (9/14/2023) This House bill would prevent states from implementing laws banning or limiting the sale of gas-powered vehicles, as enacted in California, and copied in several other states including Md, Del, & Va. Yet for Virginia, Governor Youngkin has plans to reverse that state’s law when he can gather legislative support and sentiment. Rep. John Joyce, (R, PA) who introduced the House bill said: ““There is nothing more quintessentially American than the freedom of the open road, and this important legislation protects the freedom of all Americans to drive the vehicles of their choice.” Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) said: "Americans can make consumer choices based on their merits and needs, not on radical mandates rooted in trying to force Green New Deal directives on families.” GOP lawmakers have argued the state restrictions are "unaffordable and impractical." And since vehicles are sold within interstate commerce, I'm wondering whether states even have that power to impose restrictions, under the constitution (?) Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3 of the Constitution, gives Congress the power “to regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states,... I expect the Senate would need to change to a conservative majority for these efforts to be successful. Yet it reflects a better viewpoint and outlook, IMO. Some of the sharpest criticism of Biden’s EV efforts has been launched against moving the military vehicles to be electric powered EV’s. Headlines included: Biden’s latest botch: Electric military vehicles, Electric Vehicles for the Military Still a Pipedream & This Might Be The Worst Idea Joe Biden’s Ever Had Click Here Click Here Click Here Some quotes: “Anyone who has even a little experience in military logistics recognizes Joe Biden’s E.V. mandate as a political farce . . . As an Afghanistan war veteran, I wish Biden DoD’s top brass had the courage to put our national security before Green New Deal fantasies ,” House Armed Services Committee member Jim Banks (R-Ind) said. Also Deputy National Security Advisor, Matt Pottinger, who served three combat deployments as a Marine said “We rely on China for most of our EV supply chain, and on middle eastern allies for our energy needs. To put those needs- even for our military- in the hands of our chief adversary is, to use a technical term, pretty dumb.” And he added: “I encountered a lot of IEDs on dirt roads in Afghanistan, but no charging stations,” (underlines added). Sorry Mr. Biden, BUT the American people need freedom to chose & a different attitude than yours regarding EV’s. |
