Mark (& ALL) Here’s some more EV political entanglements.
Congress has begun to fight back against states mandating deadlines when new vehicles must only be EV’s. Report titled: House passes bill that would ban state limits on selling gas-powered vehicles Click Here (9/14/2023) This House bill would prevent states from implementing laws banning or limiting the sale of gas-powered vehicles, as enacted in California, and copied in several other states including Md, Del, & Va. Yet for Virginia, Governor Youngkin has plans to reverse that state’s law when he can gather legislative support and sentiment. Rep. John Joyce, (R, PA) who introduced the House bill said: ““There is nothing more quintessentially American than the freedom of the open road, and this important legislation protects the freedom of all Americans to drive the vehicles of their choice.” Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) said: "Americans can make consumer choices based on their merits and needs, not on radical mandates rooted in trying to force Green New Deal directives on families.” GOP lawmakers have argued the state restrictions are "unaffordable and impractical." And since vehicles are sold within interstate commerce, I'm wondering whether states even have that power to impose restrictions, under the constitution (?) Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3 of the Constitution, gives Congress the power “to regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states,... I expect the Senate would need to change to a conservative majority for these efforts to be successful. Yet it reflects a better viewpoint and outlook, IMO. Some of the sharpest criticism of Biden’s EV efforts has been launched against moving the military vehicles to be electric powered EV’s. Headlines included: Biden’s latest botch: Electric military vehicles, Electric Vehicles for the Military Still a Pipedream & This Might Be The Worst Idea Joe Biden’s Ever Had Click Here Click Here Click Here Some quotes: “Anyone who has even a little experience in military logistics recognizes Joe Biden’s E.V. mandate as a political farce . . . As an Afghanistan war veteran, I wish Biden DoD’s top brass had the courage to put our national security before Green New Deal fantasies ,” House Armed Services Committee member Jim Banks (R-Ind) said. Also Deputy National Security Advisor, Matt Pottinger, who served three combat deployments as a Marine said “We rely on China for most of our EV supply chain, and on middle eastern allies for our energy needs. To put those needs- even for our military- in the hands of our chief adversary is, to use a technical term, pretty dumb.” And he added: “I encountered a lot of IEDs on dirt roads in Afghanistan, but no charging stations,” (underlines added). Sorry Mr. Biden, BUT the American people need freedom to chose & a different attitude than yours regarding EV’s. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Dave (& ALL) A couple weeks ago, we had a thread here discussing EV fires. Examples included:
News reports now are pointing to the political entanglements of EV’s. Its no surprise that the Auto Workers (AWU) have their differences with Repubs & Trump, but there’s now harsh relations with the Biden administration. The union members are well aware the EV’s being pushed by Biden will need thousands fewer auto workers--which means large layoffs are down the road. And those workers also hate the idea of mandates requiring them to purchase such expensive vehicles. Here’s some report titles: Biden's push for electric cars alienates longtime union allies & United Auto Workers President Slams Biden Over EV Goals Click Here Click Here Of course the Dems are always hoping for election support and endorsements from the labor unions. Yet some reports indicate the union bosses have not yet done so. Seems support is weakening Here’s another political gripe among auto workers. Congress has voted for significant funding subsidies of $ 2.8 billion to help build new EV battery factories. And most of these factories are expected to be located in right-to-work states, employing non-union workers. Unions resent this Across the aisle, congressional conservatives are raising objections with automakers who are partnering with Chinese companies for building those EV batteries. Seems that China is well known for stealing western technology, in so many cases. Then there’s been a recent announcement that FORD is shutting down construction of its new $3.5 billion EV battery plant. Report titled: Ford Gets Cold Feet, Pulls Plug on Multibillion-Dollar China-Backed EV Battery Plant Click Here This new Michigan battery plant was projected to provide 2,500 new jobs and was supported by a $1 billion subsidy grant from that state. House Republicans wrote a letter earlier in September to Ford CEO Jim Farley blasting the partnership with China. Also there’s been many reports that FORD is expecting to lose $4.5 billion on its unsold EV’s this year. Buyers are scarce, and are reluctant. YES, it’s a maze of political entanglements with EV’s. Stay tuned, as there’s more politics emerging with EV’s. How many of those workers demands, like 4 day work-week, 40% cost of living increase, etc. do you hope will occur? All, none, few?? Seems those very excessive demands need some watering down |
