Michael Shellenberger, the producer of the new documentary pointing to the correlation between the proliferation whale deaths and the hundreds of offshore windmills has an interesting political history.
Although now an established author and energy analyst, Shellenberger's earliest days were spent in global traveling, observing first hand some of society's difficult life-styles prevailing in the more primitive cultures of undeveloped nations. Seeing the practice of burning dung and wood formed his outlook for supporting the spread of benefits of modern electric power. In this century's early 2000's Michael had supported renewable energy sources. His organizations had raised funds for Obama, and had influenced the New Apollo project for federal funding of those energy sources. He also served on the UN's IPCC group, an international activist group pushing global warming matters. In 2008, Time magazine named Shellenberger a Hero of the Environment. In 2018 and 2022 Shellenberger ran for governor of California, forst as a Dem, then as an independent. But as those kinds of solar and wind projects faltered, he became outspoken about nuclear power, as the most viable, most dependable supply. And in 2020 Michael testified before congress, urging the promotion of nuclear power. In June 2020 he authored & published the pro nuclear energy book titled: Apocalypse Never: "Why Environmental Alarmism Hurts Us All" And Michael's new documentary "Thrown to the Wind" presents data connecting whale deaths to the windmill projects. See earlier messages in this thread. Projects off the coasts of Ocean City Md and Virginia Beach, as well as for New England states, are omitted from this chart, and are further adding to the whales' plight |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The deaths of 60 whales, so far this year off of the east coast, has been producing objections from environmental groups, mayors and citizens in coastal communities. And folks may recall this includes one dead whale beached on Assateague Island in January. Now there's a new documentary titled "Thrown to the Wind" covering more detailed analysis of how the whale deaths are related to offshore wind projects. This hour long documentary was produced by Michael Shellenberger, who has recently been interviewed by a variety of TV hosts, local stations, on Fox network, and overseas. Here's an 8 min video In the interviews, Shellenberger describes how their investigation used an acoustic specialist to measure the sonar blasts being produced by ships surveying the ocean floor to determine stability needed to support the tall wind turbine structures. Hundreds and even thousand of those offshore towers are being planned. He described unbelievably loud levels, high decibel sounds recorded within the acoustical data they assembled. And Shellenberger described how those caused the whales to become become confused within their own navigation signals to become beached and dying -- or to flee to unproductive water regions scare in the whales' food needs, and dying from malnutrition. Data has also been assembled about the increased ship traffic in these regions, subjecting the whales to the hazards of being injured and dying by being hit by ships and their propellers. The full hour documentary has not yet been released publicly but has been shown to member groups linked to Michael Shellenberger. Shellenberger's groups are planning to take the data collected to the House of Representatives, because there's evidence that the Biden administration has been stonewalling these kinds of environmental concerns. This idea comes for evidence they found where NOAA experts warnings about whale deaths have been unanswered and ignored by the executive branch 20 ft dead humpback whale beached on Assateague Island in January 2023 |
