Although now an established author and energy analyst, Shellenberger's earliest days were spent in global traveling, observing first hand some of society's difficult life-styles prevailing in the more primitive cultures of undeveloped nations.  Seeing the practice of burning dung and wood formed his outlook for supporting the spread of benefits of modern electric power.

In this century's early 2000's Michael had supported renewable energy sources.  His organizations had raised funds for Obama, and had influenced the New Apollo project for federal funding of those energy sources.  He also served on the UN's IPCC group, an international activist group pushing global warming matters.  In 2008, Time magazine named Shellenberger a Hero of the Environment.   In 2018 and 2022 Shellenberger ran for governor of California, forst as a Dem, then as an independent.

But as those kinds of solar and wind projects faltered, he became outspoken about nuclear power, as the most viable, most dependable supply.   And in 2020 Michael testified before congress, urging the promotion of nuclear power.   In June 2020 he authored & published the pro nuclear energy book titled: Apocalypse Never: "Why Environmental Alarmism Hurts Us All"
