Why can't we do what the did in Europe? They all sat down and reviewed various designs for nuclear power plants and, after selecting one as the best, they ALL built the exact same design plant. They can take a part from one plant and use it in another plant without any problems.
We here in the U.S. however allowed every builder to use a different design resulting in LONG construction times and no interchangeability of parts because ALL parts were custom made! Maybe we need to take a page from the Europeans? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: YES Nuclear power advances have shown how spent nuclear fuel can be recycled, and reused to produce additional power. Also the death rates of other fuels are higher than for nuclear. Report titled: Fossil fuels are far deadlier than nuclear power Click Here Problem seems to be mistaken political beliefs, as well as the extremely long time frames in building & bringing nuclear power plants on line. After the construction approval in 2012, of Southern Company's new Georgia Power nuclear plant, they've just now in October 2022 begun loading nuclear fuel into the plant. Click Here This plant in the only such new nuclear power plant being built in the US, and this current phase of construction is expected to power about a Half-million homes. More units are being planned to be built at this site, doubling its future output. In the field of nuclear power, new designs are also being tested, for smaller modular nuclear units. These efforts are being constructed by several competing manufacturers. |
