As a former Baltimore family, we were so proud of Trey Mancini's performance in the Home Run Derby last evening-- at Coors Field, Colorado. As you likely know, Mancini has just rejoined the Orioles this season, having recovered from phase 3 colon cancer.
And he was the runner up among the eight slugging stars competing that evening. Trey succeeded into the third round of that competition. Came in second to the winner of that Home Run Derby, Pete Alonso of the Mets. Interesting to read today that among several specially, artistically painted bats used by Alonso, one included a slogan found on bumper stickers supporting the Second Amendment. Report titled: MLB star wins home-run derby with pro-gun phrase painted on his bat Click Here Quote: The Greek words "molon labe" were among those on several custom-painted bats used by New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso. . . The phrase -- allegedly used by the Spartan Leonidas when told to surrender his weapons -- can be translated as "come and take them," and has been used down through history as a message of defiance, particularly as it comes to gun rights.
