Just what the country needs, 16 yr old kids voting. Why not make it 14 or 12. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Let's just take one example of the abuses promoted by HR-1. Why would states be required to automatically register 16 year-olds in voter registrations?? Makes no sense. Its an obvious abuse. Drivers license renewals in Md call for people to come in, take an eye test, be familiar with driving rules of the road including accident reporting, initially to pass a driving test and present bunches of documents. Copied from my earlier posting today: << Proof of Age & identity -- birth certificate or passport << Proof of Social Security--- Original SS card (or other specific alternatives) << Two Proofs of residential address -- Insurance paperwork, utility bill (or other specific alternatives) All three kinds of proofs are needed. So congress decides all 50 states must automatically register 16 year-olds. Also, a big question is, that the constitution gives states the rights over election provisions. Thus federal provisions could be found unconstitutional. This 16 yearolds provision is an attempted power grab by the Dems. Not designed to abate any real flaws in existing state's systems. Not debated in congressional committee. Not demonstrated how 16 yr-olds are clamoring for this right. Not attempting to say today's 16 year-olds have shown keen political awareness. Seems this could be called pie-in-the-sky, fanciful, wishful thinking -- maybe even "devilish" !! In most states 16 year-olds are classified as juveniles, and the standards of justice are a bit more relaxed , by having entire systems geared to juvenile crime & penalties. And these are run separately from the regular criminal court & penal systems. Seems based on the idea that 16 year-olds lack the judgement and behavior expected of 18 year-olds or in some cases 21 year-olds. Many parents can confirm this lack of judgement & behaviors in their own families. Were the Dems pipe-dreaming or "devilish" to put in the automatic registration of 16year-olds provisions --and forcing this on the states ?? |
