Jim I had just mentioned a reason for the Prez emulating generals historical reasons for sticking to the idea that he can win. Not going as far as you've implied.
Yet some of us hold the view that quite a few generals have hawkish tendencies. And in contrast, we respect the reductions in war accomplished in the past four years. A clear difference from Prez T's predecessors. Seems the founding fathers intentionally geared civilian control over the military to be vested into the presidency. Provides a good check & balance, according to some history buffs. Tom |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Trump may be a lot of things, but a General he is not. [Did I forget to say 'bone spur?'] He has fired many competent Generals who seriously tried to help him. He has been his own worst enemy. If he had taken the advice of some [not all!] of those he appointed in the early months of 2017, he would probably have been reelected. Now, he is surrounded by 'yes' men who are afraid to tell him when he is wrong. AND, the Senate Republicans have been silently complicit for the last four years! There must have been some way, some how for all of these experienced people to break through and guide him in a successful direction. |
