violence in the streets of the Russian Revolution
My grandparents immigrated from Ukraine soon after the turn of the century. I mentally self-flagellate every time I think of those opportunities wasted; foolishly, eschewing all chances to de-brief them on their experiences, as young people in the homeland, with particular emphasis on the Russian Revolution and the Odessa Pogrom. Think of it: An entire population of the town's Jews, marched into a holy place of worship and burned to death; not the action of Germans, mind you; no, this was handy work by a cabal of Christians like myself-- like most of us. But, hey, that was them and we're not them. Nothing could possibly make us do that... well, nothing comes to mind at the moment. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Citizens take heed. Seems important to turn away from the tyrannies of communism -- at the center of those cold wars, as a philosophy of governance. Glad you liked that. Hoping lots of voters see the parallels, these days. Lets leave the violence in the streets of the Russian Revolution far behind. A lesson for today-- also lets leave behind the many other historic examples of street violence of past times AND current times. |
