No surprise the trade proponents are publishing rosy assertions. As a retired guy of limited resources, here's some things i found from just a quick evening review.
Its quite well known that costs utility costs trend higher in places like California relying heavily on renewables. Recall your source offers the view that: "In many cases, renewable energy can actually strengthen the grid and lower costs for ratepayers. . . . Wind energy has also proven to help utilities avoid costly spikes in electricity . . . Replacing peaking generation, which can be very expensive, with a zero-fuel-cost resource like wind or solar may be able to reduce ratepayer costs. Here's the opposite viewpoint: " California saw its electricity prices rise six times more than the rest of the United States from 2011 to 2019, due to its huge expansion of renewables. Republicans in the U.S. Congress point to that massive increase to challenge justifications by Democrats to spend $2 trillion on renewables" Another quote: "Political leaders in a college town in central Texas won wide praise from former Vice President Al Gore and the larger Green Movement when they decided to go “100 percent renewable” seven years ago. . .over the last four years. . . $1,219 per household in higher electricity costs for the 71,000 residents of Georgetown, Texas . . . decision to bet on renewables resulted in the city budget getting dinged by a total of $29.8 million in the four years from 2015 to 2018. Georgetown’s electric costs were $3.5 million over budget in 2015, ballooning to $6.3 million in 2016 . . . Power that year [2017] cost the city’s budget $9.5 million more than expected, rising to $10.5 million last year [2018] Also seems well known that the govt heavily subsidizes virtually all of the renewables efforts. A hidden cost to all taxpayers, & tough to quantify. Do we all pay for some chunk of every Chevy Volt, or Tesla cars ??? Soaring power costs have occurred in Germany, and other foreign countries. Can you imagine that the trade publication was a wee bit off base?? Or more ?? |
