I understand that there were a half dozen stuck on escalators for at least an hour during that blackout. ![]() Actually that joke dates back to the '77 NYC blackout. And now that I see I am on the top seven posting hit parade ,,,,,,,I depart. And to all a good night |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Just a couple days after COP28 concluded, NY City experienced what's been called a "brief" power blackout at 11:55 PM caused by a high voltage transformer failure at a Con Edison Brooklyn substation. Quote: "Con Edison, the electric, gas and steam provider of New York City and Westchester, said in a statement on X the outage was caused by "a fault on a high-tension transmission line" at one of their Brooklyn substations." I would not want to be among those across the city who were then stuck in elevators for up to 3 hours. And this included the elevators at Grand Central and Penn Stations. Those trapped included a security guard at a Wegman's store in Brooklyn. We can only imagine how often blackouts would be occurring when cloud movements interrupt the power flows, or the wind stops blowing, and bringing blackouts when no fossil fueled plants can cover those shortages. That's the future if the COP28 representatives get their way. Sorry green new dealers, your wishes to abandon reliable fossil power are not feasible for modern society. |
