Merry Christmas. I never say happy holidays. To hell with those who feel I should simply to be politically correct. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Mark An annual controversy is the question of a “War on Christmas” I think that it’s a tricky thing here and people can tend to oversimplify the other side and then mock the oversimplified version. For example a liberal will say “there is no one telling you too cannot say Merry Christmas and so it’s all in your head you dumb conservatives.” While obviously no one will stop you from saying merry Christmas on the telephone or to a friend in a bar I think we have to consider more sensitive situations. If you formally meet a stranger for the first time and it happens to be December is it okay to wish him “Merry Christmas”? I think that in general, the left would say “No it’s rude to say Merry Christmas because there exist other cultures and religions and he might be offended if he’s a Hindu and celebrates Diwali or if he’s an African American and he celebrate kwanza” But I would diaagree - I think anyone who emigrates to the USA should be glad to be here and should be tolerant of someone says “Merry Christmas.” If I moved to India I would not be upset if someone wished me “Happy Diwali” I would think “when in Rome” and I would not be upset at all. For that matter why do we assume that someone willing to uproot and move to a foreign country must refuse to let go of their native religion. Don’t we admire people who might decide to immerse themselves in something new? The war on Christmas comes for example when a town council says that the public library cannot have a Christmas tree or that the traditional Christmas festival has to be renamed “Holiday Festival” Or when liberals insist that you’re forbidden from wishing Merry Christmas to a stranger you’re meeting for the first time .
