I may be completely wrong, but I thought this was perhaps a bit tongue-in-cheek, and mostly asked to see if the candidates would reveal more of their personalities rather than actually answer the question as asked.
Thanks for your perspective on that. A way to express your personality is a good thought. I remember that in 2008 Obama and Hillary were asked “Name your own greatest weakness” and this might also be characterized as “tongue in cheek” and a way to expose their style. Obama said that his papers sometimes got disorganized and were out of sorts. Hillary said that “she cared too much” and she then summoned a phony tear… Then there was another 2008 primary debate when for some reason Obama was asked “Do you think Hillary is likable enough to be an effective leader?” Obama replied “you’re likable enough, Hillary” which was actually a somewhat backhanded compliment in a way… Then in the general election in 2016, Hillary and Trump were asked “name someting good about your opponent.” I can’t remember what Trump said but Hillary said she liked Donald’s children which answer was kind of avoiding the issue I think. I don’t know what the future will bring but I want them to continue this format YES I do, albeit with improvements along the lines we‘ve indicated thanks again for your reply. Doug |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Re: “Which of your fellow candidates do you think does not belong here on the stage?” I may be completely wrong, but I thought this was perhaps a bit tongue-in-cheek, and mostly asked to see if the candidates would reveal more of their personalities rather than actually answer the question as asked. I thought Gov Desantis responded maturely on that one. I also think the debate format is less than ideal, at least until the actual, post-convention campaign when we have a final two (or three) candidates. I would like to see something else for now, and apparently so do many of the Fox people themselves, as they commented to that effect on Thursday on several of the talk shows. |
