Did you ever consider that wearing a mask is not so much to protect the wearer, but more those in close proximity to the wearer? One wears a mask to protect his fellow  humans. The mask wearer has limited, but some  protection, but those around him are protected if the wearer is infected. If everyone wears a mask during high infection times, then masks do work. Its not that hard of a concept to understand. It should have nothing to do with politics.

Care about your family, friends, neighbors, etc. Its a very minor inconvenience.
