This recent failure in rural Wisconsin has been described as: < a loud noise shook the farmhouse, < massive pieces of debris were strewn across a large area of ground < a lot of weight coming down at one time left quite the crater.

A more comprehensive report I saw from 10 yrs ago [from 2012] contained a chilling summary of so many failures of wind turbines, including the following:

• 67 deaths were wind industry operators and 32 were public fatalities.
• Deaths included electrocutions, falls, crush injuries, construction accidents, and a Minnesota man who was nearly cut in half by a chunk of ice knocked off a turbine tower in 1994. 
• ice throws, hurling chunks of ice off blades, were recorded 94 times in 2005.
• 221 separate incidences of blade failure, with pieces of blades documented to have flown over 1,300 meters—or 4,266 feet
• Blade pieces have gone through roofs and walls of nearby buildings.
• 121 structural failures have been recorded, including entire wind turbines that crashed to the ground.
• Wind turbine structures crashing into school yards, nearby homes, roads and walking trails.
• Three high schools had failures of wind turbines:
• Perkins High School in Ohio, blades on a month-old turbine broke apart while spinning, scattering fiberglass pieces in February 2009. A blade again detached and fell down in December 2010.
• Near Western Reserve High School in Berlin Center, Ohio, the wind turbine crashed down to the ground in April 2011
• At Fakenham High School, UK, students saw a 40-foot wind turbine crash down onto the school’s athletic field and dented a contractor’s van in December 2009.  Luckily the van wasn't totaled, but was only grazed.
• About 168 wind turbine fires have been documented
• Some fire departments watched helplessly as oil in turbine components burned hundreds of feet in the air, too high to spray suppressants, and dropped fire across the land.

Until seeing these reports, I had not known of the very poor record of those wind turbines.  Seems they're far worse than the public is aware of.
