Very interesting topic, about allowing guns in Congress.
The freshman congresswoman, Lauren Boebert (R Col), was able to win her issue. She succeded in allowing the rule to stand, allowing congresspeople to carry firearms in the Capitol. Quote from report: " Boebert -- scored a win last month when she fought House leadership to preserve a 1967 rule that allows lawmakers to be armed for self-defense. . . . Dozens of Democrats called for the 1967 rule to be overturned . . . But Boebert won after submitting her own petition to Pelosi with the signatures of 82 colleagues. . " Among the GOP lawmakers who signed Boebert's petition were: Dan Crenshaw, Andy Harris, Andy Biggs, Kat Cammack, Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Ronny Jackson, Jim Jordan, Steve King, Burgess Owens and others. And some fellow congressmen have said they're glad for that policy, considering the January 6th events. Report titled: Rep. Thomas Massie ‘glad’ he was armed during Capitol siege Click Here Another quote: "Rep. Thomas Massie said Friday he and several other members of Congress felt relieved they were carrying firearms when a mob of rioters overpowered police and stormed the Capitol " And there's an article titled: Four Freshmen Texas Congressmen Defend U.S. House Chamber With Capitol Police Click Here Seems there's no surprise that Andy Harris has also carried a firearm, [although he's from Maryland, not Texas.] |
