If someone states something AS FACT (as Mark Mitchell did in Msg# 1171058) that I have not read or heard about, then just maybe I am willing to be educated and ask for the source. If it had been presented as an opinion, then I could easily say "I disagree, here is my opinion."
In this forum, I don't often hear "This is my opinion. This is open to discussion. I would like to hear your opinion." Usually, posters here already have their heels dug in and they are not interested in discussing political topics of the day. When I post "What do you think of [any controversial political issue], I usually receive a diatribe containing links to right wing articles on right-wing off-the-wall sources, most of which are not even widely known. And many of the replies do not even relate to my original question. [Q: What do you think about Trump's speech. A: Hillary did this] There is no discussion of this is my opnion and here's why. I usually get these are the facts and no interest in discussion. If I post something on this right wing forum, I get the above response (if anything) and the rest give the orginal responder a one sentence pat on the back. This is not really what I consider a discussion. Isn't discussion one of the purposes of a forum? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Must you respond to things you disagree with by saying "Study? "Source?" all the time? You don't provide anything when you post either, except an occasional thing we view as left wing emotional diatribes published here or there. Saying "Study?" "Source?" just makes you sound like perhaps you think you're being erudite, or a good debater, when really you're just blowing off anything anyone says to you that comes down against what you think, without commenting on it at all. Not a good way to make friends and influence people. And regardless, this is a discussion forum, not a debate club. Why don't you just say you disagree, and then say what you think, instead of just sounding silly--forgive me--with "Study?" "Source?" all the time? You don't accept our conservtive sources anyway and we don't accept your left-wing sources either, so what's the point of all this? Let's just converse, eh? Maybe have a good time disagreeing instead of just annoying the heck out of each other? |
