Thanks
Amazing how a single C-17 plane carried 800 People to safety from Kabul. Whopping big mass of people. Max payload ratings I read was 170,900 pounds. And 800 people at 200 lbs, each would be 160,000 lbs. But I'm unsure if fuel weight is counted, plus crew, their supplies etc. Hats off to the US Air Force. All 800 on that cargo plane floor, sitting, shoulder to shoulder. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: That was a C17 out of Joint base McChord in Washington. By its markings, the majority of the crew was probably AF Reserve. The first of these were delivered to the AF in 1993 after a long controversy as to cost and production/design delays. Many politicians campaigned to have it scrapped as a boondoggle. 257 built. The workhorse of the airlift inventory. Range 2,760 miles, further with air refueling. 190,000 cargo capacity. Some boondoggle. |
