That fuller text doesn't help. When saying those comments, Biden was looking around at the congressional people in the room. Then also saying to them “It’s us.”
That excuse doesn't fly, in my book, when seen with Biden's body language, at those moments of the speech. And many school kids learned these words, by memory: (at least in schools of earlier days) We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed . . . . Clearly this refers to God toping the ranking, the people being next, then finally the government. Such ideas and precepts were a leading break through, for the history books, compared with other governing systems around the world. Breaking away from ruling by monarchs, by conquerors or dictators. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Biden said "We the People -- is the government" If "We" are not the government, who is? Perhaps you are simply misunderstanding what he meant. Maybe, just maybe you should quote to the totality of what he actually said. “It’s time we remembered that We the People are the government. You and I. Not some force in a distant capital. Not some powerful force we have no control over,” he said. “It’s us.” We have the government we elected, for better or worse. |
