Let's chose some largely Repub cities to make into states. Baltimore isn't a good choice. Then I'd like your idea. GREAT possibilities.
For example, there are a number of California cities listed within the top 20 conservative cities. I counted counted six California cities on the list. If you chose the top 50 conservative cities, the California Repub group is much larger . Click Here The argument for promoting this change would then be -- those Repub cities (& maybe their counties] are not adequately represented, because California is so heavily Democratic. Quite similar to the argument the Dems are using in arguing about D.C. statehood, about lack of representation This would also bring a nice potential change in the electoral college votes. More electors for Repubs, less for Dems. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Maryland ceded what is now DC to the Federal Govt for the purpose of being the seat of government. not for to become another state. Making DC a state would in all likelihood violate that agreement. If DC citizens feel under-represented than an more logical alternative would be to shrink down DC to just the central core of only federal facilities, and return the surrounding area back to Maryland. If we go down the road of making cities into states, why not make Baltimore a state, thereby getting 4 senators from maryland |
