Description: The wool from Wensleydale sheep is known for its fine, silky fibers and exceptionally long locks. The wool shown in this image came from a fleece with an average staple length of 14 inches! The tool on the right is an English-style wool comb with four rows of tines. These combs are used in pairs, with one comb "fixed" to a table or post, and the other comb held in the hand (or "hands", plural, when you start getting tired!). The little bumps of fiber are the result of combing locks like the ones on the left. Uploaded: 1/9/2004 by AnsDrost
