Photo From: RuthMacGregor - Album: Spinning and Weaving

Description: This long distaff was made from a hazelnut branch. It is much like the traditional distaffs used in France from the early Middle Ages into the 20th century. The spacer ring in the distaff cage is made from a hazelnut twig; the upper end is bound with a willow twig. A wrist distaff helps a handspinner hold prepared fiber when using a handspindle.
