Via Mather in Sacramento for 10 months for bomb nav school; Stead in Reno for a month of survival school and three months in Merced for B52 upgrade school.
Joined the AF in October '61 and joined my first operational assignment in far Northern Maine in April '64. Everything before was school, school, school. About 30 months. It was said that AF Navigator/Bombardiers got more training than any other crew position in the AF. Those were two separate positions in WWII and Korean War aircraft. Left active duty in December '66. Joined the NY Air National Guard three months later. Flew cargo, tanker and rescue aircraft. Later, Chief of Plans and Programs for the NY Air Guard. Retired December 1994. Now you know...the rest of the story. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: They actually had a lecture on the subject for all enlisted and commissioned personnel in the movie theater. When you finished training did you go from Waco to Loring? SAC had a habit of sending guys from Thule to Del Rio, -60 degrees to +100 degrees, they had a real sense of humor! |
