The travel shutdown was the right thing to do, and I give Trump credit for that.
But he has been telling us for almost 11 months [in words and actions] that the coronavirus is going away, is not a problem, we have it under control. Well, if this is what you call under control, I would hate to see it rampantly out of control! He refuses to wear a mask, socially distance, and he holds functions which turn out to be super-spreaders. What kind of example is that for others to follow when states and the medical experts are trying to get people to be careful and safe? Going to Marine One, Trump often makes comments such as the stock market is doing great, jobs are improving, etc. When asked questions, he answers only the easy ones and often berates reporters who ask difficult ones. It's mainly a venue for Trump to tell us what he wants us to hear. Most presidents do press conferences (an average of 11 per year.) Trump avoids those. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: For years we''d see presidents just strolling across the lawn to and from the helicopter -- sometimes joined by a doggie, or a wife, etc. Sometimes waving to the cameraman. Prez T started to new trend of allowing dozens of reporters there for Q&A, behind a rope line, with all kinds of questions for 5 min or more. Not done by his predecessors. Prez T led the entire globe in shutting down travels from foreign lands -- earliest country ever to do it. An example soon copied by some and eventually by most countries. The earliest shut down Jan 31 covered China and also Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen. Feb 1 he expanded the travel ban to include Burma, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Tanzania and Sudan. Later he added warnings for Japan and South Korea. And the next step was travel ban for Europe & the UK. Meanwhile most Dems including Biden was criticizing Trump's travel restrictions and calling them hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering. |
