I read that he wanted to go after China, too... might be one reason Truman wanted the guy somewhere else-- somewhere other than anywhere in the Pacific!   Truman:  "Ahh, Doug?  You got a plan that feeds a billion people?  I don't."

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: If my memory serves me didn't MacArthur want to bomb them back to the stone age?  Talk about a missed opportunity.
