Very good hourlong show a week or so ago on Winchell. His hangout was the old Stork Club in NYC; his newspaper was the beloved Daily Mirror. My father used to send me to Jack's candy store on Saturday morning for a pack of Old Gold's, a mirror and a penny pack of Chiclets for myself. He was a big spender...25cents.
Winchell might have been an investigative reporter in the early days but any tips he got were from his show business and FBI pals, some of which were settling scores with enemies. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I only remember his opening line "good evening mister and missus America and all the ships at sea". I think he was something of an investigative reporter combined with a gossip reporter but I wouldn't bet money on it. |
