Totally bizarre, Dale and it just keeps on happening!
That said, there is a difference between institutional overreach, as in legislating people out of their own garages or unwarranted search and seizure, and tragic accidents, such as the shooting of the man on the porch.
Given the snippets of fact that came out of that latter situation's video, you had a drunk raising a gun-like device in an apparently threatening manner toward the police. They don't have the luxury of waiting to see what happens in a case like that. I don't know what additional information will come out of that case, but unless it's compelling I suspect the officers involved will, and should, be exonerated.
Still troubling, though.

WOW!!! Looks like you got out of Michigan just in time. It is now illegal to sit in your garage in Dearborn Michigan.
And don't move to Long Beach, CA. There they'll shoot you dead, without warning, for sitting on a neighbor's porch and holding a garden hose...
Then there are the all too numerous random checkpoints along our highways. This man was stopped and a questionable (read illegal?) search conducted without his consent.
In Georgia they're drawing blood samples without consent. One person, strapped to a gurney and having his blood drawn asks, "What country is this?"
Did we just get done celebrating our "freedom"???? George III never did anything this onerous and our ancestors revolted. What the heck is going on here???
