I'm not aware of private ownership. But here's a couple of US utility companies known for on-shore wind turbines:
Next Era Energy: Natural gas-47%, Nuclear,23%, On-shore Wind,22.8% and small percentages in Coal, Oil, Solar and Land-fill gas Avangrid: has 8 utility companies spread across New England and upper NY state in its Avangrid Network division. And in its Avangrid Renewables division has a number of on-shore wind turbines spreading from New England, across the mid west and into three Pacific coast states. It has a few few solar farms. And this January 2024 it generated some offshore wind power and delivered it to Massachusetts. In the US, Long Island was the first to receive offshore wind power onto the public grid in December 2023, from a location 35 miles off the coast. Ocean City has raised objections to the official site to be 10 miles offshore, -- instead the town is calling for them to be 26 miles offshore. About 30 projects are currently under review for future installations in the north eastern Atlantic, including the Ocean City project. Fishermen, ships and the Coast Guard will have additional obstacles in foggy weather. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Tom, do you know if land based units are owned by investors much like the majority of rail cars? |
