Here's some things mentioned at yesterday's meeting as well as Shellenberger's research:
When giving their official documents approving wind projects, NOAA has regularly authorized "takes" when approving wind projects. And those "takes'" are equivalent to injuries and deaths of whales & other sea life. THEY ALREADY KNOW THE DEATH THREATS !! Decibel levels allowed in approval documents are being exceeded in practice. When NOAA reports that whale deaths were from being struck by ships, they omit the fact that huge increases in boat traffic were created by the sonar boats mapping the sea beds. Rep Harris, a medical doctor mentioned that NOAA is not doing level B Necropsy. And all the NOAA reports I’ve read have never been mentioning examining the whales' ears. Yet the UK studies have reported the internal bleeding found in their dead whale autopsies. What is NOAA omitting/ hiding?? Seems that virtually all the experts there yesterday were pointing to various questions being repeatedly asked of NOAA by officials like Congressmen Harris, Smith & Van Drew. YET NO RESPONSES ARE OCCURRING. A pattern of omitting/ hiding. The Miles offshore and height of the wind turbines have been moving targets. Earlier there was a pledge given to Ocean City that the towers would be 17 miles offshore. And the towers were to be about 400+ ft tall. The Town officials have been asking for them to be 26 miles off the coast. Changes have now occurred moving the site to 10 miles offshore. And making matters worse the towers height is now planned to be in the 900+ ft to 1000+ ft tall range. The threat of seeing those towers is threatening tourism, the very life blood of the town and the finances of thousands of condo & property owners, from spoilage of the pristine ocean view. A major blow is the masking of defense dept. RADAR needed to protect the US. Land based wind farms are already blanking out sectors of the US radar curtain. Although the sector military commanders have recorded the concerns, stonewalling has occurred at higher military levels. Coast Guard operations for search and rescue will also be impaired by the windmills & by their radar coverage being curtailed. Horse shoe crabs needed for medical purposes can be impaired by the electromagnetic fields emitted by the miles of undersea cables stretching across miles of their habitat. These are just a few of the issues discussed at yesterday’s meeting. I was impressed by the depth of information these guest experts brought to the table. So many technical issues & details were covered. Whales (including the North American Right Whale) were only one among so many other issues being covered. From their frequent applause, I'd suggest that the audience of more than 200 people were also impressed. |
