EV reports have been touting claims of major battery improvements for several years. BUT Promises, promises are for the uncertain future, and are some unknown times away from now
Yet there's some hurdles and potential delays before going into production. New designs need testing and regulatory approvals. New battery plants take time for construction. New fledgling technology companies are always more prone to bankruptcy. And existing production has undergone design adjustments, intended to provide better safety against catching fire. For example FORD's F-150 elec. trucks were shut down from production earlier this year to allow its battery plant to make design changes. This closure followed after the EV truck fires occurring at Ford's Dearborn holding lot, outside of the Dearborn truck assembly plant. And FORD will need to backfit the many unsold electric F-150's. Click Here One battery plant offering quick charge battery designs has admitted that commercial production could take a decade to occur. Other suppliers have been pretty quiet about when their commercial production may begin. Quote: " We believe a more practical step is the introduction of semi-solid-state batteries which we are targeting for mass production by 2028. . . Despite some of the bullish claims by our rivals, all-solid-state batteries are still at least 10 years away. They are certainly no silver bullet for any vehicle maker currently developing fast charging electric vehicle architectures." Folks should not hold their breath for those advanced battery EV's to actually arrive. And then there may be problems of obsolescence of older style charging stations, and scarcity of newest designs. |
