The Maryland nuclear plant at Calvert Cliffs had years earlier already extended its operating license to 2034 for Unit 1 and 2036 for unit 2. Just weeks ago, on July 31, the nuclear industry saw the beginning of commercial operation of Georgia Power's Unit 3 at Vogtle Plant. Unit 4 is scheduled to enter commercial operation in March 2024. Despite the fact that nuclear power is 100% carbon-free, the greenies were fighting to close down the Diablo Nuclear Power Plant in 2024 & 2025. But the legislators, state regulators and Gov Newsom have been clearing the way and supporting license renewal, with efforts begun in 2022.
