Well, I guess the bottom line is not whether they are relevant, but whether the people at the defense department are thinking broadly enough.
Evidently they were in error in the fact that - as you said - no one thought about the possibility of an Islamic attack by civilian planes. The conclusion is that those military brains should have been thinking more broadly and should have realized such a possibility. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Once they became irrelevant. What would be the point of having them when they could no longer stop an attack? We did and still do have F-16's and F-15's scattered around the country in ANG units that can be airborne immediately as evidenced by actions taken during 9/11 |
