Just to be clear, the whales were hit by large ships, wind turbines have nothing to do with their deaths

In the recent NJ & NY cases of dead whales, the govt has claimed there's never been examples of whales dying from the wind turbines.  Yet those claims have ignored some concerns as well as counter-claims cited by environmental groups.   

For example, none of the reports of whale carcass autopsies have mentioned examining the Whale's ears, a key indication whether sonar damage has occurred-- a key indicator whether wind turbines were involved.

For example-- regarding the sonar threat to whales, comes from sonar mapping of Wind farm sites, preliminary to construction:

• < military exercises using mid-frequency sonar have been linked quite clearly to the disorientation, deaths and beaching of whales.
• < Sixteen  whales were found stranded on beaches in the Bahamas shortly after US Navy ships using the high-intensity sonar had passed by. Six are known to have died, and the rest were pushed back into the sea.
• < Autopsies revealed bleeding around the whales' inner ears and in one instance in the brain. 
• < “This is the first time the US Navy has really acknowledged responsibility for anything like this,” says Andrew Wetzler of the National Resources Defense Council, a New York-based environmental group. 
• < For the underwater topographical mapping of potential wind farm sites, the shipboard sonar device emits loud noise several times a second, often for hours at a time, as the ship slowly maps the sea floor.
• < A sonar blaster unit can log hundreds of miles surveying a 10-by-10 mile wind farm site. [typical size]
• < To date NOAA has issued 46 one-year permits for offshore proposed wind site surveys.

• < In Jan. 2016 29 sperm whales died on English, German and Dutch beaches.
• < “researchers at the University of St. Andrews have found that the noise made by offshore wind farms can interfere with a whale’s sonar, and can in tragic cases see them driven onto beaches where they often die,” 

Another example that environmental groups have cited involves the large pilings being forcefully rammed into the seabed to support the 800 ft. tall wind turbines.   Wind promoters have admitted that their pile-driving can be heard up to 50 miles (80 kilometers) underwater. -- Thus environmental groups assert the pile driving of those huge metal structures can be harmful to whales that happen to be nearby.  

Ocean Pines folks can imagine that massive hammering sound--the clang of hammering in a massive metal structure into the seabed, compared with the hammering on wooden pilings locally.
