That's historically 100 % correct. So many examples of Dems aligned with suppressions of former slaves. And opposing the effects of the Emancipation Proclamation 

The Dems restrictions against blacks were not only happening in the times of Lincoln in the 1800's, but well into more modern times.  Most folks can recall leading Democrat officials heavily involved, like Senator Robert Byrd, and like President Woodrow Wilson.  Here's some examples of the contrast between leaders of the two political parties:  Report quotes:
