Background:
During their 5/16/2006 meeting the Worcester County Commisisoners voted to bring business properties along Route 589 into the Ocean Pines sewage treatment plant based on an "emergency." The businesses served by the privately owns tratment systems include McDonalds, Remax, a bank, Parts Plus, and perhaps others.
What the Commissioers refused to admit is the "emergency" is only the result of failure by the owners of the properties to properly maintain their previously approved sewage treatment systems. It also represents a failure by the county health department to properly inspect and demand these private commercial treatment plants were kept in compliance with county codes.
While the hook-ups will indeed prevent sewage pollution in the area as a result of the property owner created "emergency," as a practical matter the owners of these properties received exactly what they wanted -- connection to a public facility.
